Pakistan A won the PakDay Cup 2010. A well organised event by the PCB.

Congrats to Hafeez and his side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most significantly,Shahid Khan Afridi has officially been announced as Pakistan's captain for the T20WC. This has brought a lot of happiness and hope amongst Pakistani fans and supporters and rightly so. Imran Khan, the voice of Pakistan cricket also wanted Shahid Afridi to lead Pakistan because he is attacking, energetic and aggressive. A logical and idealistic choice at the end of the day from the PCB.
Talking of Imran Khan, here is his messsage for 23rd March 2010

yes!! good arrangement by the PCB on the republic day.. it was noticeable that all the three of he openers selected for the T2O world cup performed well on the day.. Mohammad Hafeez not only batted well but also lead the A side quite well.. Other openers Khalid Latif and Salman Butt also were amongst the runs
Shahid Afridi is a good choice for captaincy.provided the team supports him.In Pakistan there is a big issue of player power and player politics. any ways lets hope BOOM BOOM brings glory to PAKISTAN INSHA ALLAH
Thanks Babar
I mostly agree with your views. Salman Butt is not a T20 player. Khalid Latif has proven in domestic cricket he can be.
Hafeez thoroughly deserves his place in the T20WC final 11.
He did well in the RBST20 comp as well as being named player of the day today!!!!
you are right about salman butt not being the ideal choice for the T20 format, however looking things in a broader way we must realize that he is in the squad for the wcup and we must look at his form due to this fact..
Hafeez has impressed one and all by his attitude and game.. very good to hear AAMIR SOHAIL rating him very high. he has definitely earned his place back in the team
Now comes the turn of Khalid Latif.. he idealizes the legend Sachin Tendulkar.. Khalid has all the shots in the book, plays spin well however his foot work is a little tentative.but he is a consistent performer at FC level in all forms of the game.He really impresses me every time i see him bat.. One of the few players i really admire and know a lot about.
i will highlight some of his achievements
1) Leading PAKISTAN U19 team to world cup glory in 2004 (BANGLADESH)
2) Smashing Shoaib Akhter for 3 sixes and two fours in a practice T20 match held for the 2007 T20 wcup (KARACHI)
3) Smashing an unbeaten 142 agsinst AUSTRALIA 'A' and helping PAKISTAN 'A' to chase a mammoth total of 340 (FAISALABAD) 2007
4) Scoring a double hundred against QUETTA in a ONE DAY DOMESTIC match (KARACHI) 2009
5) Good batting in RBS T20 cup 2010 and 3 consecutive 100's in the PATRONS TROPHY GRADE II 2010.
no doubt the guy is quality however he musy do really well in the CARRIBEAN to prove himself
Babar
I also rate Khalid Latif as a batsmen. He has been highly achieving in his domestic and FC career. He can attack and defend, play accordingly.
His technique will be tested on away shores. He need to brush up in specific areas as you have so rightly mentioned.
I feel Pakistan need to invest in him as an opener....... give him extended opportunity to prove his worth
I feel he has a big future with Pakistan cricket.
As a Karachi resident I understand why you have so much enthusiasm for and towards him!!!!!
NO on a serious note he can play for sure and is very able and gifted player.......
exactly.. he will be severely tested in alien carribean conditions.. i use the word alien because the wickets on which matches are played there are mostly two-paced and batsmen tend to struggle.however Khalid is equipped with an arsenal of strokes to go with his ability to hit big sixes..
he is a six hitter.. and there is an intresting story behind his transformation as a six hitter which i will share some time
see i am his big fan.. yes the fact of being a resident of Karachi might be the reason behind me being his big fan. but i also am a big fan of Nasir Jamshed.. I dont know where has he disappeared after a successfull beginning.
Shahzaib Hasan Khan scored 67* off 42 balls yesterday against Pakistan in the final match for Pak A team.
He finished the game off with 6,4,6,6 !!!
Realistically speaking he should have been in the final 15 man squad ahead of Salman Butt I personally feel. Great to watch!!!!
i have seen Khalid play live so i find his bating style very attractive. however i beleive he requires a little fine tuning as far as his foot work goes
Such a talent this guy:D
Can you plz share that 6 hitting transformation story with us Babar?
Should be an interesting one..
Shahzaib is known for his big hitting in the T20 format.. he really is unlucky to miss out in the final 15 the only reason i think Butt is in the final 15 is because of his experience. because Latif is not that expereinced and Hafeez is on a come back.. Amazed that Imran Nazeer is also omitted
well as u know Khalid is around since 2000 in the FC level. He lives in Malir Canttonment Area Karachi, and plays for Malir Gymkhana.(best cricket club in Karachi)
Khalid was playing a match for Malir Gymkhana (2002) and in that game SAEED ANWER,YOUNIS KHAN,ASIM KAMAL, RASHID LATIF,SAEED AZAD,SAJID ALI all the greats were also playing for MALIR. Khalid who was an opener for the club got a chance to bat at number 8 in that game due to all these big names playing in the top order. Khalid got angry and in that angry state smashed 15 sixes in that match.. and ever since than he has a good percentage of hitting sixes in his innings
Well well well Babar you certainly seem to know all the history!!!!!!
Great knowledge :-)
thanks for your compliments. u are welcome any time.
Wow great six hitting story thanks for sharing, reminds me of the Wasim vs Waqar competition when each wanted to out bowl the other, rivalry that produces results are great to watch unlike the current rivalry we have among the players.
yes i agree with u that rivalry with others brings out the best out of a player.however unfortunately in our countey player politics and "jealousy" factor has spread like a deadly virus and are destroyting our cricket.. however the PCB took a god initiative by imposing bans and fines on players that were involved in unsporting acts,... hopefully this virus will be eradicated very soon
Shoaib Malik was the culprit for creating player politics virus in the team. What a disgrace :(
Hopefully this won't happen again in the future. The PCB should have acted upon it more urgently to be honest rather than letting the team suffer for the whole tour down under. Why were these sanctions issues so late????????
PCB were aware about politics being played by the players however they didnt had any solid proofs or facts as to who is the main culprit. all of us including the PCB knew that Malik had alot to do with it bu there was no big evidence of it. how ever during the Australia tour when EX skipper MOHAMMAD YOUSUF blatantly accused that Malik is creating gruops in the team and playing politics against Him then PCB took the matter in their hands.
I liked Malik till before 2007 when he was made the captian of the wounded Pakistani team. however during his captaincy his attitude towards both seniors and youngsters was very bad. Legends Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul Razzaq joined the rebel INDIAN CRICKET LEAGUE(ICL)after getting disappointed by Malik's behavior towards them. He also was unfair to several young players who were selected in the team under Malik's captaincy however Malik never game them a proper chance
Babar
It is very disappointing stuff from Malik, extremely disgraceful actions.....
As a player alone I like him, but as a team players I heavily dislike him.
The question many are now asking is why he was appointed captain against England in UAE T20 series when the board may have known all of this? Certainly this needs an explanation one shall feel.
Malik has been a matchwinner for Pakistan but head and shoulders above everything else a "Team morale breaker".........
He is highly responsible for the turmoils Pakistan has found itself in over the years......
Shame on you Malik.......
well there is no doubt about malik's key role in initiating player politics in the team again. i wonder what made him do this. i think he was taking revenge from the PCB as they forced him to resign as a skipper after the horrible loss to the Srilankan at home..
as far as giving him the leadership for the UAE series is concerned i think the main reason could be that out of all the players that were a part of the touring party Malik was the only one to have any major caotaincy experience.
Kamran.Razzaq.Nazir they all are experienced, however they donot have much captaincy experience..
