Nelson !

The curse of nelson has been a superstitious theory which has been raised in this Lords test. A wicket has occurred several times when a score has reached the palindrome figure. This reminds us all of the former international umpire, David Sheppard and his hopping movements whenever the landmark had been silenced in the anticipation that something unusual was going to happen !

I think it's all to do with the human mind. For instance, the number of batsmen who get out in the 90s or on 99. If 99 was an insignificant number, as oppose to the one before 100, we would see much less batsmen get out on it.

The more someone thinks about the Nelson, the more they will fall on it.

It will be interesting to see how the sports psychologists within team set ups go about these "mile stones".

Maybe they try to get players to make the 49s, 99s etc insignificant. This would be one way of conquering it, make it seem as just another number.

Of course, this way of thinking will come crashing down as soon as they get the single because then they celebrate and the significance of the 49 or 99 is restored!
